Allen Community College

Allen Community College, originally called Allen County Community College, is a 2 year junior college found in Iola in the state of Kansas. The school was established in 1923 as the Iola Junior College. The college was found on the 3rd floor of Iola high school. The school was designed as an extension of the local high school and it was to serve the students of the district. The first year of the school had close to 100 students.
In 1965, the school became the Allen County Community Junior College. Then in 1979, the Board of Trustees purchased a 250 acre farm, located near Highway 169. In 1980, the school officially changed its name to Allen County Community College. In 1983, a 56-bed residence hall, named Winter Hall, was built in to accommodate the growing number of students who were selecting the school. In the next few years several additions were made to the campus including a physical fitness trail, an 1800 square foot Activities Building, a fitness center, and a Technology Building. An Interactive Television studio was also added to the Tech Building in 1998.
The college has an average enrollment of more than 2,500 students each semester. Students can avail of the school’s programs on the campuses of Iola and Burlingame, through Interactive Television, through the Internet, and through several outreach sites located within the area of the six counties that the college serves. Among the programs offered by the school includes degrees in the Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science and the Associate of General Studies.
The school competes in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and fields teams in 12 sports. The school colors are red and black and the school nickname are the Red Devils.
